Happy New Year!

Here is wishing you all a very happy new year. This is my first painting for 2013 which also completes 200 posts on this blog. It's been exactly 4 and half years since I started documenting my attempt at watercolor in this blog and I am happy that I could carry on till today!

Perspective (Watercolor)

The chair in the background creates incredible depth in the picture. That's the main reason why I love painting this again and again.

Two new paintings (watercolor)

Here are two paintings which are little different than the ones I do normally. One is more like a portrait of a tree and the other one is painted very loosely. I hope you will love both.

Something different... Taljai hill, pune (watercolor)

Guruwar Peth, Pune (Watercolor)

I did a sketch on site and then made this painting based on photograph. I loved the composition with the shadow angling across the building. Painters will tell you that it's very difficult to stop once you start painting the details. This one is a prime example - where I had to tell myself to STOP. The bricks on the wall was the last detail I painted.

Morning at Anjarle (watercolor)

I'd been to Anjarle in Konkan in February 2012. Here is a painting based on an early morning scene captured in my camera.

The road to Lavasa goes through some small villages fortunate enough to be away from so called developer's eyes. So one still finds some beautiful green fields there. Here is one such farm bathed in the late afternoon sunshine.

Lavasa 4 (Watercolor)

The road to Lavasa has many twists and turns which people find exciting for various reasons. Those who love driving enjoy them and those who have car sickness are excited for wrong reasons! For me each turn presents a beautiful scene worth painting. Here is one I liked.

Don't touch! it's wet! (Watercolor)

A friend had posted a photograph on facebook of unusual rains in Muscat. It made a very nice subject especially for watercolor painting where we paint "wet on wet" to create the atmosphere. Hope you will enjoy this.

Timeless beauty! (water color)

Old temples by riverside in Black and White have a timeless feel about them. So here is a painting I did in Paynes Grey to achieve a similar feel. Hope you like it. Composition theories prescribe avoiding too much action in the corner of paintings - however the goats here were too inviting! They also do not cause lot of disturbance.

Lavasa 2

Temghar Dam backwaters on a cold and grey evening. There was no need to look for colors other than Paynes Grey. I personally love these B&W paintings. They look even better after framing.

Yesterday I went for a drive with a friend and took some photographs on the way. Here is a painting based on one of them. I hope you will like it.

Evening at Harne village!

This one took a day! Normally I paint the light and mid tones first and then darks in the end. However this one has so many details that there was a great risk of losing the tonal balance. So I filled all blocks in mid- tones first and then glazed a wash of dark grey to achieve the light effect. Hope you will like it!

Yesterday's demonstration!

Yesterday I did a watercolor painting demo for some of my family members. Here is the result! I hope you will also like it.

Storytelling..

Artistes often state that paintings should be like stories and not like reports..meaning they should be subtle and suggestive rather than too realistic. This is what I had in mind while painting this one. I hope you will enjoy watching this.
