Experiment continues (pencil drawing)

I liked my previous experiment of sketching my own hand. So here is one more.

Finally a face on the sketch (pencil drawing)

After numerous sketches without face, yesterday I dared to draw one with the face. Is it good? I don't think so (may be I will give it 5 out of 10). But it gives me satisfaction to have moved forward. For me progress is important. I am not (yet?) an artist, so you will not find great drawings or paintings here. What I am documenting is the learning process. To see after one year whether the line strokes have become more confident, proportions have improved, perspective is correct, light and shadows are depicted properly and so on. We always see the end result of learning but what about the process? How did the present artists practise their craft? I do not know. This is why I feel documenting the learning is important. Each person has his/her own style of drawing/painting. Some day I will develop something of my own also. It will be interesting then to see whether one can figure out how my style got developed based on these posts. End of the day, the style will be determined by my likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. This journey will tell me whether the way I learnt had an impact.

My Left Hand (pencil drawing)

One more experiment to get the lines right rather than the shading part.

Updates with new photographs

I have now updated all the post with new photographs of the sketches taken in day light. These are not scanned images. I am just using digital photos of the pencil drawings to load here. Let me know if there are better ways of showing the nuances of pencil sketches.

Tea Stall

Chahachi Gadi - Outside a temple!

Bhajiwali - Vegetable vendor

Finally started sketching outdoors. This was made in Tulshibagwale Colony. I am trying something new nowadays. The first sketch is made with a normal B or 2B pencil and then I am just applying few strokes with colour pencils on top of the original sketch. The tones are shown with a normal black pencil only.

Taljai - one more try!

In the previous painting, the trees appeared too close. I wanted to show trees going up the hill. So I tried showing some big trees in front and just a green wash with bluish waves behind.

Taljai Hill, a view from my house

After more than 10 attempts to paint this hill, yesterday I was somewhat satisfied with the results. The monsoon clouds on a lush green hill is a great view and therefore a great subject for painting!

A quick portrait

Cannot expect my daughter to sit still for more than 15 minutes, she is just 9! So I had to make this one quickly, in 10 minutes flat. She feels this could have been much better!!

View from living room

This is another attempt to get the depth right. Corners of own house are great as subjects for sketching, all you need to do is view them from unusual angles!

Living room

I thought I will start with something simple. But getting the perspective right was harder than I thought.

The cupboard it seems fooled me a bit!
