Paintings from my recent art tour to Harne!

I went to Harne with a group of artists led by international watercolor artist Mr. Milind Mulick. I am posting a few paintings from that trip. Also posting a few which were influenced by what I learnt during the trip, specifically trying to loosen up my painting style and not make the painting photo realistic.

Boatscapes in Goa (watercolor)

I was in Goa for 3 days attending an office conference. The only time available to enjoy the beauty of the famous Goa beach Majorda was early morning. But I still managed to do a little bit of sketching and took some photographs for reference. Here are the first 3 paintings based on these sketches/photographs depicting the early morning atmosphere. All these are fishing boats surrounded by fishing nets left to dry in the night. The crows were trying to find some pieces of fish in those nets.

A typical scene on Taljai Hill (watercolor)

Taljai Hill is one of the few green areas of Pune that have survived the Real Estate Developers and politicians of the city. It's a beautiful place which every artist in Pune must visit and paint regularly. This is a small painting - just 5 X 7 inches - but full of action! I have used plain, wet-on-wet, dry on wet, wet on dry - in short - all combinations of washes.I have blown on the wet color to mix it on paper, I have sprinkled the color with a long hair brush and I have wiped the wash with paper napkin. I have glazed - added multiple layers of paint on each other. All this while making sure that I do not lose sight of the dark and light areas or lose the aerial perspective created by the blues in the background. It was great fun in the end - though at one point I thought of scrapping the paper. My daughter told me that it's looking ok - go ahead and paint details and so I finished it.  I am very happy with the end result! I hope you will also like it.

Fergusson College Main Building (watercolor)

This is a colourful version of Fergusson College main building from a slightly different angle and with some trees making the composition more interesting. See my previous post for a grey scale on-site painting. Both are small paintings, just 5 X 7 inches.

Sunday painting at Fergusson college

On most sundays I join a group of artists for outdoor painting. Normally I just do some sketching on site, click some photographs and then paint from photographs sometime over the week. Today for a change I decided to complete at least one painting on site. The light was beautiful. And I truly enjoyed doing this Paynes Grey painting. Its a small 5 x 7 painting and I was satisfied that I could avoid getting lost in the deyails of the British period architecture and could focus instead on the light and shadows.

Two paintings in Paynes Grey (watercolor)

Once in a while, the paynes grey color tube looks at me and says 'use me, no need for any other color'. I cannot say 'no' and give it a try. Here are 2 such attempts.
